Lily Xiao, Painting, 2023
Lily Xiao is a multidisciplinary sculptor and fabricator born in Chicago. They are attending the Maryland Institute College of Art, living and creating in Baltimore, Maryland. Xiao’s recent Solo exhibition in the Gateway Gallery, Faithful Rind, addresses fertility, loss, and transcendence. Xiao curated the exhibition The Space Between Us at Gallery CA, creating a community for BIPOC abstract artists. Their work in curation and sculpture has been reviewed in BmoreArt.

联系 is a reflection on connection. Mycelium communicates silently, tendrils spreading information under dark heavy soil. I created this piece to be a lens in which we view this organism, as our eyes are usually hidden from the quiet exchanges beneath our feet. These root like structures are a connection between us and them. Our veins overlap with, leaves, branches, roots, and the whisper soft threads of the mycelial network.
