Skill Building
A series of technical exercises build and demonstrate skills in Rhino, laser cutting, 3D printing, and CNC routing.
Project I: The Spaghetti Pod
I wanted to make a template for the foam led DJ helmet I want to eventually make one day. I looked up methods on how to laser cut a sphere and came to the conclusion that the methods used for globes would work here.

Process
getting a template for the sphere was difficult but I was to use the Rebuild command to get the circle to be split into parts so that Rhino would allow me to unwrap the shape, from there I added tabs to each segment and cut them all out lined up. after cutting them out I was able to bend and hot glue the pieces to get a rough globe shape.

Grim city
Grim-City is a glowing blade that can shift through multiple modes and carries the power of an entire city. I was able to craft it using 3d printed parts, neopixels and an arduino. the katana is an original design.

Process
this blade is actually the 2nd glowing glowing katana I made for this project, the first had many holes in it because my 3d model in rhino was too thin and not well put together but after spending more time in rhino and being more alert of the cross section I was able to craft a much more durable blade. the sword has one whole that is within the neck of the katana that houses a steal rod and the rest is hollow and houses the LED lights which is supported by a thin aluminum pipe. each segment of the blade is put together with both super glues and welding. within the hilt/handle, I was able to house the Arduino and all of its wires. and finally, the code isn’t original rather its a preset in the “FAST LED” library but I did modify it to react to a button press and I also coded 2 of the other color presets shown in the video. the project as a whole is based off of a series of sketches I made when designing a unique katana.
Project III: Time tile
this was my first time working with concrete and there were a lot of mistakes made from mixing incorrectly to overestimating the durability of my concrete. beyond that I had a lot of fun with the design itself, I wanted the slab to mirror its surroundings so I based its design on the giant clock on top of the station building, also the clock has a cool South Park reference

Process
I looked at Ryan’s template and the clock tower on top of the station and figured out how to mix these designs seamlessly after a bit of editing I got a composition I was happy with. From there I was able to mill the foam mold and cast the concrete the mold.
